 | Carnival for Mums (and children) Putney 24-02-2009
London Mums in collaboration with Eddie Catz has organised a free Carnival Party in the Italian style, a proper Martedi’ Grasso with ‘chiacchiere’ or ‘sfrappole’, typical Italian Carnival sweets made by Dolce Mamma especially for this event, and a fancy dress party with a prize for the best costume sponsored by Hopscotch. More importantly of all London Mums will be able to view an exclusive costume jewels collection called ‘Cose Belle’ (‘Pretty things’), the vintage costume jewellery collection on exhibition by one of Italy’s major collector of high-end period costume jewellery Stefania Bochicchio, who is also journalist, author and broadcaster. Her collection, gathered during the last 15 years, spans the years between 1900 and 1970ca. The collector in person will briefly talk on the history of 20th century American fashion jewellery, its time and star designers, with the aid of multimedia presentations, choice examples from her personal collection and the possibility to purchase selected, unique pieces of beautiful costume jewellery. Stefania will provide anecdotal details behind the jewels, i.e. that in 1952 the then First Lady Mamie Eisenhower preferred to commission Trifari, a high end costume jewels Company, to craft the full parure she wore at her husband’s inauguration; same Trifari in the 30s successfully headhunted one of Cartier’s designers; the Coro-signed brooch in 1943 was priced at $38.00.
